Fourth of July celebration at Lacy Park is a popular community
event featuring organized activities, a community parade, stage
entertainment and an amazing patriotic fireworks display. The
event includes a variety of game booths and family challenges,
performances by local bands, a formal program and refreshments
for sale.
For more details, please look
for the Summer Recreation and Library Guide and the City
Newsletter.
Snow Day
Lacy Park is transformed into a
winter wonderland of snow and sledding every year on Snow Day in
January. The event features activities for the entire family to
enjoy. Forty tons of snow are delivered for children to make
snowmen, throw snowballs and sled down ramps. Food, rides, a
children’s craft fair and pony rides are also among the day’s
highlights. There is a nominal fee for admission and rides.
Track Meet
The City of San Marino hosts an
All-City Track Meet every year at the San Marino High School
track. Students born in select years who are residents of San
Marino or attend a San Marino school are eligible to
participate. Please check with the Recreation Department for
qualifying birth years.
Track events include a 50 meter, 100
meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 800 meter and 1600 meter race, and
a 400 meter relay race. Field events include a softball throw,
long jump and high jump. Medals are awarded to first, second and
third place winners.
The meet serves as a qualifying meet
for the San Gabriel Valley Track Meet. First and second place
winners in each event
are eligible to compete in the SGVMAA meet.

Easter Egg Hunt
The City of San Marino celebrates
Easter with an annual Easter Egg Hunt at Lacy Park. Children who
are toddlers through 12 years of age are invited to bring their
own baskets and hunt for eggs. Those participating in the egg
hunt are divided into appropriate age divisions. A train,
petting zoo and pictures with the Easter Bunny are
among the other activities offered. Pre-sale wristbands go on
sale at the Recreation Department prior to the event.
Memorial Day
The City of San Marino honors its
military veterans each year with a special patriotic ceremony on
Memorial Day. The service is held at Lacy Park and features
recognition of veterans, special guest speakers and patriotic
music.
Fishing Derby
In 2005, the city hosted its first
Fishing Derby at Lacy Park. Individuals ages 1 to adult
are invited to participate by casting their lines into a
temporary pond created in Lacy Park and stocked with trout.
Fishing poles and bait are provided by the Recreation Department. The event features various food vendors as well.
Winners are awarded by age group,
with prizes given for the top three heaviest fish caught in each
age group. There is a nominal fee to participate, and
pre-registration is required.
